Working days on land, sea, and sky

Nordic Inertial is a fascinating company that is always looking for special skills and talented professionals. What kind of expertise is especially needed in a company that operates on land, at sea and in the sky, and what kind of working culture does it have? Who can be an employee at Nordic Inertial?

Demand for special expertise

Nordic Inertial works in four departments. The data department arranges test campaigns and processes and organizes the resulting data into a suitable format for the algorithm team. The algorithm team builds algorithms that process data to produce, for example, statistically optimal results. Next, the algorithm is tested and transferred to embedded devices and further to the customer's use. The algorithm work can be very abstract and requires a strong background in mathematics and physics.

Further on, the software department creates and builds software for the target application. They bridge the gap between theoretical constructs and customer requirements in implementation. By integrating client feedback into their development cycles, they continuously refine and enhance their software products to better meet user needs and expectations.  SW team ensures the software meets the highest standards of functionality and reliability. Solutions are tested at customer site with customer’s machines, and further iterations are carried out. The team is flexible, adapts to changes swiftly, and deliver high-quality software with short lead time.

– Nordic Inertial has many employees from different backgrounds and they are being sought on a wide scale. We have engineers, mathematicians, software developers and machine learning experts with varying educational background. At work, however, employees are trained for their tasks, explains Jussi Collin, the CEO of Nordic Inertial.

Versatile operating environment

The duties of a Nordic Inertial employee include examining the customer's own current solutions and making comparisons with the Nordic Inertial's offering. Test campaigns are arranged together with customers, and duties may include test planning, equipment installation, and processing and validating the received data. Some work is done at the office, but often work is conducted at the customer’s site, or in the actual work environment of the end customer.

– Carrying out the measurements requires a lot of preparatory work. We make sure that the preparations have been completed in accordance with the requirements and that everything works as expected. The work environment can be on land, at sea or in the air, and the customer's equipment can be small or large. Sometimes we fly to customer’s site with all measuring equipment with us, Collin describes the nature of the work.

An Idea Rich Workplace

Nordic Inertial's work culture is relaxed and includes thinking out loud and taking ideas from different backgrounds and combining them. We are targeting for a versatile operating environment where you don't sit in meetings constantly, but you get to do real design work and use measurement devices in their real operation environment. From tiny, embedded modules to large machines, you can immediately see the result of own work and how the whole system works. Projects can be very large and involve many different professionals also from the customer’s side.

– Nordic Inertial is always interested in experts who have special skills meeting our needs. We currently have offices in Espoo, Tampere, Jyväskylä and Lempäälä. Living abroad is not an obstacle, because remote work is also possible. At the moment, we are specifically looking experts in model-based design who can manage complex systems and refine their designs through visual, mathematical, and simulation models, Collin hopes.
